Two Men Arrested in Mumbai for Rape of 16-Year-Old Friend, Minor Detained

Mumbai police on Saturday arrested two men, aged 20 and 21, for allegedly raping their 16-year-old friend after spiking her drink at a cycle track. A 16-year-old boy was also detained for allegedly recording the assault on his mobile phone and later circulating the clip on social media.

According to police officials, the incident occurred in December following an argument between the victim and her father. Distressed by the dispute, the teenager contacted her friends. The accused subsequently took her to a cycle track.

At the location, the accused allegedly laced the girl's cold drink with cannabis and an intoxicant. After consuming the beverage, she began feeling unwell. Police stated that the two adult accused took advantage of her intoxicated condition to rape her, while the minor suspect recorded the entire incident on his mobile phone.

Following the assault, the accused threatened the victim. She returned home but did not disclose the assault to anyone out of fear, an investigating officer said.

The crime came to light recently after the video footage recorded during the assault was allegedly shared and circulated on social media platforms. The victim's family members came across the video and questioned her about it, after which she told them what had transpired.

The family then approached the police to report the matter. Authorities registered a case under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as well as relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

Police confirmed that both adult accused were arrested, while the minor suspect was detained and produced before the Child Welfare Committee.
