Two motorcyclists killed in head-on collision on Uran-Mora Road

Two motorcyclists were killed on the spot in a suspected head-on collision opposite Harishchandra Gawand Garden on the Uran-Mora Road in Uran, Navi Mumbai, at around 3 am on Monday.
The victims, identified as 35-year-old Mahesh Chandekar and 38-year-old Nikhil Kukade, sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
According to the police, Chandekar, a resident of Bori village, was riding his motorcycle towards Uran township. Kukade, a resident of Nagaon, was riding his Bullet motorcycle in the opposite direction towards Mora village.
The Uran police reported that rash and negligent driving led to the head-on collision. The impact of the crash threw both riders some distance away, causing them to suffer grievous injuries to their heads and other body parts.
By the time the police arrived at the scene, both men had died. Officers rushed them to the government rural hospital in Uran, where they were declared dead.
A complaint regarding the incident has been filed with the Uran police by Vaibhav Kadu. Police are currently investigating the case and are also looking into the potential involvement of any other vehicle in the mishap, as there were no eyewitnesses at the scene.
The fatal accident has sparked concerns among local residents regarding road safety on the stretch. Residents have demanded the installation of a speedbreaker, noting that motorists often drive at high speeds as if the road were a highway.
Santosh Pawar, a resident of Uran, stated that there has been past opposition and political pressure regarding the installation of a speedbreaker at the spot. He added that the accident site lies outside the range of local CCTV cameras and noted that both victims worked in private jobs.
The Uran police have registered a fatal motor accident case and are continuing their investigation.
