Two Pregnant Women and Four Residents Rescued From Flooded Pen Taluka Villages

On Tuesday, the Raigad district administration successfully rescued two nine-month-pregnant women and four other stranded residents from the flood-marooned villages of Rave and Tambadshet in Pen taluka, Raigad district. The back-to-back operations, conducted under challenging conditions, ensured that both women were evacuated and hospitalized in time for urgent medical care.

The first emergency operation was launched after authorities received information that 23-year-old Payal Rajesh Patil, a nine-month-pregnant resident of Rave village, required immediate hospitalisation. Because the village was completely cut off by floodwaters and lacked any road access, the administration deployed a government-provided inflatable boat to reach the location.

Following directions from Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawale, the rescue was coordinated by Resident Deputy Collector Sandesh Shirke, District Disaster Management Officer Sagar Pathak, and Pen Sub-Divisional Officer Pravin Pawar. Trained Aapda Mitra volunteers, Abhiket Mhatre and Rajesh Mhatre, navigated the swollen waters to reach the stranded residents.

The team successfully evacuated Payal Patil along with four other stranded residents from Rave village. An ambulance was stationed at the designated evacuation point, and Patil was immediately transported to a hospital in Pen for medical attention.

Before the first rescue operation could be fully completed, the administration received a second emergency call from the nearby Tambadshet village. Another woman, also in her ninth month of pregnancy, had become stranded due to the rising floodwaters.

The same rescue team was immediately redeployed to Tambadshet. Despite facing strong currents and submerged access routes that made navigation extremely difficult, the team successfully evacuated the second pregnant woman and transported her to safety for medical treatment.

According to the district administration, the timely execution of both operations ensured that both women received prompt medical care. The administration credited the success of the evacuations to the seamless coordination between the district administration, disaster management authorities, emergency medical services, and the Aapda Mitra volunteers.
