Two-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Rainwater Trench at Kadamwak Wasti, Contractor Booked

A two-year-old boy died after falling into a nearly three-foot-deep trench filled with rainwater and sewage at Kadamwak Wasti in the Loni gram panchayat area of Pune district, Maharashtra, on June 30, 2026. Following the tragic incident, police officials booked the contractor responsible for the site. A case of negligence was registered against the contractor for failing to provide adequate safety measures at the location.

According to police officials, the trench had been dug alongside a drain. The purpose of the excavation was to facilitate the flow of rainwater. However, rainwater and sewage subsequently accumulated in the trench, creating a nearly three-foot-deep hazard.

The toddler, who lived in a nearby settlement, was playing in the area when he accidentally fell into the trench. The child's parents realized that he had been missing for a long time and began searching for him. Subsequently, the boy's body was recovered from the water-filled trench.

Following the recovery of the toddler's body, the police registered a case against the unnamed contractor. Officials stated that the contractor was negligent for failing to provide adequate safety measures at the excavation site.

The police officials confirmed the registration of the negligence case on Friday, July 3, 2026. The officials added that further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
