Uber and Rapido Apply for Licences Under Maharashtra Aggregator Policy

Ride-hailing platforms operating in Mumbai and across Maharashtra, including Uber and Rapido, have submitted applications for operational licences under the state's new aggregator policy, with Monday marking the final day for submissions.

Senior transport department officials confirmed that major operators have applied to continue operations under the new regulatory framework. Other applicants include Bharat Taxi, which has sought permission to operate aggregator services across Mumbai and the state, and Devabhau Sahakar Taxi, a government-backed cooperative aggregator service promoted through the Devdutt Cooperative Society to generate employment opportunities for educated unemployed youth in Maharashtra.

Transport officials stated that all submitted applications will undergo scrutiny to verify compliance with the Maharashtra Aggregator Rules before any licences are granted. Once approved, operating platforms will be brought under a formal legal framework governing fares, driver welfare, passenger safety, and service standards.

The regulatory policy introduces key changes for both commuters and drivers across the state. Under the new framework, surge pricing has been capped at 1.5 times the base fare, prohibiting steep fare spikes during peak travel hours or emergencies.
