Uber Expands to 100 New Indian Cities With Free First Ride Offer
Ride-hailing platform Uber announced in Mumbai that it has launched one of its largest expansions in India, extending its services into 100 additional cities across the country. With this launch, the company's coverage area now spans more than 220 cities nationwide.
To commemorate the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, Uber is introducing a special promotional offer for new riders. Under this limited-period offer, new users in the service areas will receive a free first ride on the platform.
The broad expansion effort will be heavily powered by Uber Bike, bringing two-wheeler ride-hailing services to smaller towns and emerging urban centres. Uber explained that introducing two-wheeler transit options is intended to deliver affordable, efficient, and reliable mobility solutions to areas that previously lacked these services.
Beyond improving transit options for riders, the platform expects the move to boost last-mile connectivity across the newly served regions. At the same time, the company stated that the expansion is designed to create new, flexible earning opportunities for thousands of local drivers across the country.
The newly included 100 cities are distributed across 18 states and one Union Territory, significantly widening the company's geographic footprint. The service area now stretches from Jammu in the northern region to Tirunelveli in the south, and from Silchar in the east to Jamnagar in the west.
Uber reiterated that the massive rollout underscores its ongoing commitment to deepening its service presence well beyond traditional metropolitan markets. The company stated that its goal is to make reliable transportation accessible to millions of Indians who reside outside the major urban hubs.
Speaking on the launch, Rishant Ghosh, Director - Consumer & Growth for Uber India & South Asia, highlighted the company's strategic focus on penetration into non-metro regions.
"Expanding to 100 new cities marks an important milestone as we take Uber deeper into India and strengthen access to reliable, affordable mobility for millions," Ghosh said in a statement regarding the platform's nationwide expansion.
