Ulwe Police Arrest Five for Robbing 53-Year-Old Woman in Gavhan Village

The Ulwe police have arrested five members of a gang in connection with the robbery of a 53-year-old woman living alone at Gavhan village on August 18. Investigators have recovered vehicles, mobile phones, and cash collectively valued at Rs 8.65 lakh linked to the crime, while four other suspects remain absconding.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohit Shantaram Malusare, 27, and Suraj Raju Gaikwad, 19, both residents of Badlapur, along with Gavhan residents Dipesh Suresh Bhoir, 23, Pravin Sadanand Koli, 31, and Farhan Altaf Sheikh, 19.

According to the police, the robbery took place in the early hours of August 18 when the gang entered the residence of Shevanta Dhaya Koli, 53, by removing the roof tiles. When Koli woke up and attempted to resist, one of the intruders held a knife to her neck and threatened to kill her. The gang then fled the premises with gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh in cash, amounting to a total value of approximately Rs 9 lakh.

Following the registration of the case at Ulwe police station, Senior Police Inspector Arjun Rajane and Police Inspector (Crime) Ashwini Patil directed Assistant Police Inspectors Suresh Kharat and Tushar Bachhav along with their team to investigate. The team identified the suspects by reviewing local CCTV footage and conducting technical analysis.

Officers first tracked two suspects to Badlapur and detained them along with a car allegedly used in the robbery. Based on information obtained from the interrogation, the team subsequently detained the three remaining suspects in Gavhan village.

Police seized seized assets worth Rs 8.65 lakh, comprising a Honda Jazz car valued at Rs 4 lakh, a KTM motorcycle worth Rs 2 lakh, an Access scooter worth Rs 75,000, an iPhone 16, a Realme mobile phone, two Oppo mobile phones, and Rs 45,000 in cash.

According to police records, Malusare has 17 cases registered against him across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, involving theft, robbery, house-breaking, and possession of weapons. Gaikwad has two house-breaking cases registered at Bhosari police station and a murder case registered when he was a juvenile in Ahilyanagar.

Police stated that efforts are continuing to trace the four absconding suspects and recover the remaining stolen property.
