Unsafe Tree Collapses onto Marol Military Road in Andheri East After Trimming Delays

An old tree previously identified as a safety hazard collapsed onto Marol Military Road in Andheri East around 12:00 PM on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The collapse occurred during heavy rains, months after the local housing society had successfully obtained permission to trim the tree.
The tree, which was located inside a residential society in Andheri East, had been recognized as a fall risk by the society in late January. Although the society obtained official permission to trim the tree in early February, the work was never executed. Residents explained that they did not know how to proceed with the trimming and lacked trained workers, which left the tree standing for months.
The tree remained standing until July 1, when heavy monsoon rains caused it to collapse onto the busy Marol Military Road. The incident has highlighted the significant safety hazards caused by delays in executing tree-trimming permissions, as well as the residents' lack of knowledge on proper maintenance procedures.
Pramod Sawant, the local corporator for Ward 75, which covers Marol and Andheri East, stated that the housing society residents are also at fault for the delay. Sawant explained that the residents should have approached either the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) or their local corporator to get guidance on how to proceed with the tree felling.
According to Sawant, an elderly resident of the society contacted him after the incident. The resident told Sawant that they had planned to approach him for help regarding the tree on the very day of the collapse, but the tree fell before they were able to do so.
