Vashi Railway Police Launch Baggage Checks After Borivali Train Stabbing

In the wake of the fatal stabbing of a young man aboard a suburban train at Borivali, the Railway Police have stepped up security measures across the railway network. As part of this heightened vigil, the Vashi Railway Police on Tuesday launched surprise baggage checking drives at all railway stations under their jurisdiction.

The security drive, which was conducted on the directions of the Commissioner of Mumbai Railway Police, focused on inspecting passengers' baggage and taking immediate action against those carrying prohibited items or travelling under the influence of alcohol.

During the inspections at Vashi railway station, police officers initiated legal action against several passengers who were found with suspicious items or determined to be intoxicated while travelling. The security teams focused on preventing commuters from carrying knives, daggers, scissors, other sharp weapons, and inflammable or explosive materials on local trains.

Senior Police Inspector Kiran Undre of the Vashi Railway Police Station stated that these surprise security checks are aimed at ensuring commuter safety following the recent Borivali murder.

"Our top priority is the safety of railway passengers. Strict action will be taken against anyone found carrying weapons, inflammable or explosive substances, or travelling under the influence of alcohol or narcotic drugs," Undre said.

Undre also appealed directly to the public to assist law enforcement during the security drive. "We appeal to commuters to cooperate with the checking teams and immediately report any suspicious person or unattended object to the Railway Police," Undre added.

According to police officials, the special checking campaign will continue across all railway stations under the Vashi Railway Police jurisdiction in the coming days. The ongoing inspections are part of a coordinated effort to strengthen railway security and prevent similar violent incidents on the train network.
