Vedanta Group Empowers 20 Lakh People Through Skilling Initiatives Over Six Years

MUMBAI — Vedanta Group announced on Thursday that it has empowered nearly 20 lakh people across India through its various skill development and livelihood initiatives over the past six years.

The announcement, made on World Youth Skills Day, highlights the company's efforts to create employment opportunities, promote entrepreneurship, and strengthen rural livelihoods. The initiatives span 17 states where the company operates, utilizing 25 Skill Development Centres.

Since 2016, Vedanta has trained more than 46,000 young people through its industry-focused skilling programmes. These training sessions cover multiple sectors, including manufacturing, digital services, hospitality, entrepreneurship, and drone technology. Women make up 51 per cent of the total trainees. Supported by nearly 200 placement partners, the programmes have achieved an 80 per cent placement rate, with successful candidates securing an average annual salary package of more than ₹2 lakh.

Additionally, Vedanta's flagship social impact programme, Nand Ghar, has expanded to 15,000 modernised anganwadi centres across 17 states. These centres act as hubs for early childhood education, nutrition, healthcare support, women's skill development, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and livelihood generation.

The company implements these skilling initiatives in partnership with several government schemes. These include the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), PM Vishwakarma, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), the Skill India Impact Bond (SIIB), the Mukhyamantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (MMKVY), and the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA).

Specific regional success stories include Sarita Sahu from Odisha, who secured employment in the hospitality sector after training at a Vedanta Skill Development Centre, and Jitendra Singh from Rajasthan, who became a certified drone pilot and entrepreneur providing precision agriculture services.

Vedanta stated that its region-specific initiatives across its businesses, such as Vedanta Aluminium, Hindustan Zinc, BALCO, and Vedanta Oil & Gas, are designed to address local employment opportunities while building a future-ready workforce.
