Veteran Playback Singer Suman Kalyanpur Passes Away At 89

Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur, who was widely celebrated for her songs in both the Hindi and Marathi film industries, has passed away at the age of 89. Among those paying respects were prominent political figures from Maharashtra. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed his grief, calling the news of the Padma Bhushan recipient's passing "extremely heartbreaking." Gadkari described her departure as a "great loss to the Indian music world" and paid a heartfelt tribute to the legendary artist.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Gadkari emphasized the scale of Kalyanpur's career, stating that she immortalized thousands of songs with her voice across Marathi, Hindi, and many other languages. He noted that her sweet voice remains beloved by generations of music lovers.

Gadkari specifically highlighted several of her popular Marathi songs that remain widely remembered, including "Ketakichya BTithe," "Sang Kadhi Kalnar Tula," and "Nimbonyachya Jhadamaghe." He stated that these tracks are still on the lips of music lovers today, reflecting her immense and unparalleled contribution to the field of Indian music.

In his tribute, the Union Minister prayed for peace for the departed soul and wished strength for Kalyanpur's near and dear ones to recover from the deep sorrow of her passing.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other ministers also paid tribute to the veteran playback singer, remembering her extensive contributions to Indian music. Kalyanpur's career spanned decades, during which she earned national recognition, including the prestigious Padma Bhushan, for her artistic achievements.
