Vikhroli Residents Blame Construction Debris for Saturday Waterlogging

Residents of Vikhroli, Mumbai, faced severe waterlogging on Saturday after ongoing construction projects by local developers blocked stormwater drain outlets and obstructed rainwater flow. The accumulation of construction debris and poorly managed site entrances left roads flooded and sent rainwater pouring into local residential premises.
Local residents have alleged that poor drainage management by builders in the area is directly responsible for worsening the effects of the heavy rainfall. According to the affected locals, developers have failed to maintain proper drainage systems around their active construction sites, leading to major blockages.
The ongoing development projects in Vikhroli have drawn sharp criticism from the community. Residents point out that the temporary barricades put up by developers, combined with leftover construction materials and debris, act as physical barriers to the natural drainage path.
Sanjay Jaiswal, a resident of Vikhroli, explained that the blockages are a direct result of the builders' activities. He noted that the construction debris, temporary barricades, and poorly managed site entrances have completely obstructed the free flow of rainwater in the neighborhood.
This obstruction has had a severe impact on the daily lives of Vikhroli residents. The blocked stormwater drains have not only resulted in heavily flooded roads but have also caused rainwater to enter residential premises. Jaiswal stated that this flooding occurs after every spell of heavy rain due to the unresolved drainage issues.
The situation was reported on July 5, 2026, following a Saturday of heavy rain that highlighted the vulnerability of the local infrastructure when combined with construction-related blockages. The community maintains that until developers clear the debris and properly manage the drainage outlets around their construction sites, the neighborhood will continue to suffer from flooded streets and homes.
