Vile Parle Fire: Mumbai Fire Brigade Finds Safety Lapses at Shanta Bhuvan

The Mumbai Fire Brigade has found the Shanta Bhuvan building in Vile Parle to be non-compliant with standard fire safety protocols following a deadly blaze earlier this month.
The fire broke out on the night of August 11 on the topmost floor of the ground-plus-11-storey residential structure in Vile Parle. The incident claimed the lives of two people, including a two-and-a-half-year-old boy.
Following an assessment of the premises, officials confirmed that the residential building had failed to adhere to mandatory fire safety requirements. Mumbai Fire Brigade Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar noted the lapses and highlighted the ongoing enforcement of fire compliance rules, routine inspections, and penalties prescribed for safety violations.
Ambulgekar emphasized the critical need for housing societies and premises across the city to ensure they maintain functional firefighting systems and remain prepared for emergencies. He also pointed out the systemic challenges that the fire brigade faces when working to ensure that buildings consistently meet safety standards and comply with established fire safety regulations.
