Virar–Bharuch MEMU Derails at Bhilad Station, Disrupting Western Railway Services

Four wheels of the leading Driving Motor Coach of the Virar–Bharuch MEMU derailed on Tuesday morning while entering the platform at Bhilad station. The incident occurred at approximately 6:27 am, leading to disruptions across Western Railway train services. No passengers or railway staff sustained injuries during the derailment.

The train involved in the derailment has been identified as Train No. 19101, the Virar–Bharuch MEMU. As the train approached the platform at Bhilad station, four wheels of its front Driving Motor Coach (DMC) slipped off the rails. Despite the derailment, no injuries were reported among any of the passengers on board or the railway personnel present at the scene.

To address the incident at Bhilad, an Accident Relief Train (ART) alongside specialized accident relief equipment was dispatched from Valsad. Railway emergency teams immediately initiated re-railing work on a war footing in an effort to lift the coach back onto the tracks and clear the line.

The derailment caused scheduling issues across the Western Railway network, leaving several long-distance trains running late. Authorities indicated that select train services originating from Gujarat may be diverted via alternate routes while the line at Bhilad remains affected by the restoration efforts.

Commuters traveling near Mumbai also faced delays as a consequence of the derailment. Among the impacted services, the Intercity Express was brought to a halt at Virar station, where it remained held for more than 30 minutes while railway officials managed train movements along the affected section.
