Wadala Homemaker Rescues Son From Knife Wielding Robber in Matunga East

On Wednesday evening, a 36-year-old homemaker from Wadala displayed extraordinary courage to rescue her six-year-old son and thwart a robbery attempt in a parking lot near Guru Nanak Khalsa College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Matunga East, Mumbai. Around 7:00 PM, an armed assailant entered her car and held her younger son hostage with a knife, demanding her money and jewelry.
The victim, Divya Rahul Pai, had parked her car outside the college to pick up her eight-year-old son, who regularly plays football in the area. She had accompanied him with her younger, six-year-old son.
According to Pai, as she was preparing to drive out of the parking lot with her two sons in the rear seat, a man suddenly entered the vehicle through the rear door. The intruder placed a knife against her younger son’s neck and demanded whatever money and jewelry she had in her possession.
Despite her fear, Pai acted immediately. She got out of the car, opened the door where the assailant was seated, and began screaming loudly for help.
Her cries for assistance caused the attacker to panic. He attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, because he was limping due to a leg injury, bystanders who were present at the spot were able to quickly corner and apprehend him.
The Matunga police identified the accused as Ali Basharat Ali Sayyad, a 35-year-old driver residing in Kharghar. Police officers recovered two knives from his possession. Sayyad has been booked for wrongful restraint and robbery.
According to a police officer from the Matunga police station, the accused claimed he committed the act because he was in desperate need of money. Police are currently checking his criminal antecedents.
Pai accompanied the bystanders and the apprehended suspect to the Matunga police station to report the incident. While the family escaped physical harm, Pai mentioned that her two sons remained fear-stricken and were unable to sleep after the ordeal.
