Watchman Dies After Speeding Two-Wheeler Hits Him on LJ Road in Mahim

A 48-year-old watchman died after a speeding two-wheeler knocked him down while he was crossing Lady Jamshedji Road near Paradise Cinema in Mahim during the early hours of Sunday. He was transported to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was identified as Manoj Dayal Giri, who worked and resided at the nearby Ganesh Apartment on L J Road, near Sheetladevi temple. Police stated that Giri had stepped out of the residential building early in the morning to have tea when the collision took place.

According to the Mahim police, the force of the collision flung Giri onto the roadway, causing severe injuries. The rider of the two-wheeler also suffered injuries during the crash.

Police officers who arrived at the scene transported both injured individuals in a police van to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra for emergency treatment. Giri subsequently passed away from the extent of his injuries.

Investigators identified the two-wheeler rider as Roshan Rajesh Joshi, a 22-year-old college student residing in Geeta Nagar, Colaba. Police reported that Joshi was on his way to meet a friend in Bandra at the time of the incident.

Following the crash, the Mahim police took Joshi into custody at the police station and registered a case against him. The charges were filed under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 125, and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police officials served Joshi a notice under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and allowed him to leave while the investigation continues. The complaint in the case was lodged by Giri’s brother, Dhoop Giri, who works in an industrial unit in Raigad.
