Water Contamination at Jogeshwari West Petrol Pump Forces Closure of Two Pumps

The BP Fuel Station, located in the Amboli neighborhood of Jogeshwari West in Mumbai, faced service disruptions after waterlogging in the low-lying area contaminated one of its fuel tanks. The issue, which was first flagged by local motorists on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, resulted in the closure of two key dispensing pumps by Friday, July 3, 2026.
The water contamination occurred because the fuel station is situated in a low-lying part of Jogeshwari West, making it highly vulnerable to waterlogging. Rainwater accumulated in the area and managed to seep into one of the station's underground fuel tanks, mixing with the stored fuel and rendering it completely unusable.
By Friday afternoon, July 3, 2026, the consequences of the water ingress were fully evident at the site. The two designated fuel pumps reserved specifically for two-wheelers were completely shut down. While these two pumps were closed to prevent damage to vehicles, the rest of the BP Fuel Station facility remained operational for other motorists.
While the two-wheeler pumps were closed, station workers were stationed nearby to manage the incoming traffic. These staffers were seen actively turning motorists away from the affected dispensing units, informing them that fuel was temporarily unavailable for two-wheelers.
At the same time, cleanup and remediation efforts were underway at the Amboli station. Workers were observed pumping out the contaminated, foul-smelling liquid from the affected fuel tank. The station workers then dumped the extracted liquid directly into the nearby drains in an effort to clear the tank.
The entire incident was first brought to public attention on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Concerned motorists noticed the fuel contamination at the Amboli station and flagged the issue through a social media post. This public alert prompted the subsequent closure and cleanup operations overseen by pump owner Manilal Lalan and his station staff.
