Waterlogged Tracks In Nalasopara Delay Western Railway Suburban Trains By 30 Minutes

Suburban train services on the Western Railway network faced severe disruptions and delays of up to 30 minutes over the past four days after heavy rainfall triggered waterlogging on the tracks in Nalasopara and the Palghar area. The incessant downpours battered Mumbai and its neighbouring regions, submerging roads and railway tracks, which disrupted normal life across the metropolitan area.
According to Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek, continuous rain over the past three to four days led to severe waterlogging on the tracks between Vasai Road and Virar. This accumulation of water directly affected the operation of suburban train services.
Abhishek explained that due to the heavy rainfall in the Palghar area, waterlogging occurred specifically in the Nalasopara area. Because the tracks became completely submerged under water, local train services had to be temporarily halted at intervals to ensure safety.
While local train services between Vasai Road, Nalasopara, and Virar remained operational, the Western Railway had to curtail the number of services. Consequently, trains on this section were run at much longer intervals than usual.
Despite the challenges, the Chief Public Relations Officer assured commuters that efforts were actively being made to maintain services across the network. He noted that heavy rainfall was continuing, particularly in the Nalasopara area, where repeated waterlogging had been reported.
At present, local train services continue to operate across the wider network, including routes from Churchgate to Vasai Road, Vasai Road to Virar, and Virar to Dahanu. Services between Churchgate and Vasai Road are running normally. However, several local trains on the Western Railway network are running 25 to 30 minutes behind schedule.
The Western Railway also shared the weather forecast from the India Meteorological Department. The forecast predicts intermittent spells of rain across Mumbai and its suburbs, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places and occasional gusty winds ranging between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour.
Railway authorities stated that every effort is being made to maintain connectivity across the suburban network and operate the maximum possible number of services. Passengers travelling on the Western Railway route, particularly between Vasai Road and Virar, have been advised to expect delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
The continuous rainfall over the past few days has also triggered several other rain-related incidents across Mumbai and its adjoining areas, including tree falls, waterlogging, and the flooding of roads and railway tracks.
