Western Railway Floats Rs 86.5-Crore Tender For Goregaon-Borivli Harbour Line Extension

Western Railway has officially floated an Rs 86.5-crore civil works tender for the proposed Harbour Line western extension between Goregaon and Borivli in Mumbai. The infrastructure project, which is gaining pace under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project 3A (MUTP-3A), is expected to significantly change and improve the city's suburban rail connectivity.

The newly invited bids target key infrastructure developments required to lay the groundwork for the extended corridor. According to the tender details, the package includes earthwork, bridge construction, and other allied infrastructure works along the route connecting Goregaon and Borivli. These works are essential to prepare the stretch for track laying and subsequent train operations.

The entire Goregaon-Borivli Harbour Line extension project is estimated to cost Rs 898 crore in total. The overall budget has been divided into specific segments to cover various aspects of the railway expansion. Civil engineering works account for the largest share of the project, with an estimated cost of Rs 728 crore.

The remaining budget is allocated to specialized systems. This includes Rs 88 crore designated for electrical works across the corridor. Additionally, Rs 82 crore has been set aside for essential signalling and telecommunication installations to support the new line.

A major highlight of the civil engineering phase is the planned construction of 18 bridges along the route. These structures are necessary to accommodate the new tracks and ensure seamless operations.

Once completed, the western extension of the Harbour Line rail network is anticipated to bring major relief to commuters. By extending the line from its current terminus at Goregaon up to Borivli, railway authorities aim to enhance the overall capacity and efficiency of Mumbai's suburban transit system.
