Western Railway Opens 175 ATVM Facilitator Jobs to General Public, 14 in Andheri

Western Railway has invited applications from the general public for 175 Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) facilitator positions across 36 stations, including Andheri, marking the first time these roles have been opened to local citizens. The application process, which commenced on Tuesday, marks a major shift from the previous system that restricted these contract jobs strictly to retired railway employees and their family members.

The initiative is designed to improve passenger assistance at busy stations while promoting faster and wider adoption of ATVM-based ticketing across the Mumbai suburban network. Under the new guidelines, Andheri and Bandra stations have been allocated the highest number of vacancies, with 14 facilitator posts available at each station.

Other stations on the Churchgate-Dahanu suburban corridor with announced vacancies include Santacruz with 12 posts, Prabhadevi and Jogeshwari with nine posts each, followed by Mumbai Central, Goregaon, Malad, and Borivali with eight posts each. No vacancies have been announced at Dahisar, Mira Road, Vasai Road, and Boisar stations.

According to Western Railway officials, any local resident of the district who is aged 18 years or above and has passed Class 10 is eligible to apply. The recruitment will be carried out on a first-come, first-served basis. Selected candidates will be appointed on a two-year contract and will work under a commission-based payment system.

Applicants must undergo a mandatory police verification process before their appointment is finalized. Additionally, selected candidates for Andheri and most other stations must deposit a refundable security amount of Rs 25,000. For those selected at Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, Surat, and Vapi stations, the refundable security deposit is set at Rs 50,000. Retired railway employees are exempt from this security deposit.

Western Railway officials confirmed that five facilitator positions have already been filled with retired railway staff during the ongoing recruitment process.
