Western Railway Plans Hotel and Mall at Jogeshwari Junction Multimodal Hub

Western Railway has shared plans to transform Jogeshwari Junction, located in the Andheri region of Mumbai, into a major multimodal transport and commercial hub featuring a hotel, shopping mall, and dedicated parking facilities. The development was discussed during a joint review meeting between Western Railway General Manager Ramashray Pandey and MP Ravindra Waikar. The upgraded station is targeted to begin handling outstation trains starting in January 2027.

According to Western Railway, the commercial development aspect of the project will be officially taken up if it is found to be both technically and financially feasible. The proposal marks a significant shift from a conventional railway station structure to a modern, integrated transport and commercial hub.

Once completed, the upgraded Jogeshwari Junction is planned to function as an integrated center connecting suburban rail, Metro lines, and road transport. Railway officials believe that the addition of these commercial facilities will greatly improve passenger convenience while successfully generating essential non-fare revenue for the railways.

If the plans are approved, the hotel and mall project could establish Jogeshwari as one of Mumbai's very first suburban railway stations to combine transport infrastructure with large-scale commercial facilities.

The review meeting between General Manager Pandey and MP Waikar also covered other major regional transit developments, including the Rs 898.29-crore Goregaon–Borivali Harbour Line extension project. This railway extension is currently targeted for completion by March 2029.

In addition to the long-term hub plans, the officials reviewed several immediate passenger amenity projects aimed at improving both the Andheri and Jogeshwari stations. These localized station upgrades include the installation of new lifts and escalators, improved waiting halls, and better station toilets. The stations will also receive dedicated breastfeeding rooms, Railway Protection Force (RPF) assistance specifically for senior citizens, and a dedicated ambulance service.
