Wet-Lease Bus Rams 14 Vehicles in Andheri West Injuring Up to Eight People

A wet-lease bus operated by Mateshwari Urban Transport Solutions Pvt. Ltd. lost control and rammed into 14 vehicles in Andheri West on July 10, leaving around six to eight people injured. The incident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. near the Andheri Subway as the Route 242 bus was making a right turn from Caesar Road onto S.V. Road.

The out-of-control bus struck nine autorickshaws, four private cars, and one three-wheeler tempo. Following the collision, the injured individuals were immediately shifted to Cooper Hospital and other nearby private medical facilities for treatment.

The crash in Andheri West has intensified public safety concerns regarding Mumbai's wet-lease bus fleet. Official data reveals that between January and May 2026, the fleet was involved in 249 road accidents, which resulted in 10 deaths and 46 injuries.

A month-by-month breakdown of the safety data highlights a high frequency of incidents. In January, the fleet recorded 81 accidents, leading to three deaths and 13 injuries, as well as 40 inspection-related and 27 miscellaneous incidents. February saw 45 accidents, three fatalities, five injuries, 15 inspection-related incidents, and 18 miscellaneous incidents.

The numbers rose in March, with 96 accidents causing two fatalities and seven injuries, alongside 44 inspection-related and 29 miscellaneous incidents. April recorded 92 accidents, 10 injuries, 54 inspection-related incidents, and 19 miscellaneous incidents, though no fatalities were reported that month. May saw the highest number of accidents at 99, resulting in two deaths, 11 injuries, 62 inspection-related incidents, and 27 miscellaneous incidents.

Mateshwari Urban Transport Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the operator of the bus involved in the Andheri West crash, was also involved in a prior accident on June 4. In that incident, a Route 440 wet-lease bus struck a parked Ola car at Pushpa Park in Malad (East) while returning to the Wadala depot. The driver of the Ola car, who was cleaning his vehicle at the time, was hit in the collision.
