A woman and her one-year-old son were killed, and her husband and five-year-old son were severely injured after an unidentified vehicle rammed their motorcycle near Retibunder in Mumbra on Saturday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Sania Raeen and her one-year-old son, Shahzaib. Her husband, Sajid Raeen, and the couple's five-year-old son, Shehzad, sustained severe injuries in the crash. Both are currently undergoing medical treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa.
According to available information, Sajid is a resident of Madina Complex in Mahada Colony, Bhiwandi, where he lives with his family on the seventh floor and works as a tomato vendor. The family had travelled to Sania's parental residence at Rashid Compound in Mumbra ahead of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.
The incident took place on Saturday when the family was returning home to Bhiwandi riding a Suzuki Avenis 125 motorcycle. Police reported that as the motorcycle reached the Retibunder area, an unidentified vehicle rammed into it from behind with considerable impact.
The severe collision caused Sajid to lose control of the two-wheeler, resulting in all four family members falling onto the road. Sania and infant Shahzaib sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead. Sajid and Shehzad suffered serious injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital for emergency care.
The driver of the unidentified vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision occurred.
Upon being alerted about the accident, personnel from the Mumbra police station reached the spot and conducted a panchnama. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa for post-mortem examination.
The Mumbra police have initiated an investigation into the hit-and-run case. Officers are currently reviewing CCTV camera footage from the surrounding stretches to identify the offending vehicle and track down the absconding driver.
