Woman arrested at CSMIA with 4 kg smuggled gold worth Rs 6 crore

On Friday, July 3, 2026, officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a female passenger at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai. The arrest followed the seizure of four kilograms of smuggled foreign-origin gold, which is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 6 crore.

The female passenger had arrived at the Mumbai airport on a flight traveling from Dubai. According to the DRI, officers intercepted the passenger shortly after her arrival on Friday, acting on specific intelligence that had been received regarding the smuggling attempt.

During a subsequent search of the passenger and her belongings, DRI officers recovered four foreign-marked gold bars. The four gold bars weighed a total of 4,000 grams. The agency reported that the gold bars had been concealed inside the woman's trousers in an alleged attempt to smuggle the precious metal into the country.

Following the discovery, the gold was officially seized by the authorities under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The estimated value of the seized contraband is around Rs 6 crore.

The passenger was arrested by the DRI. The agency stated that a further investigation is currently underway to identify other individuals who may be linked to the alleged smuggling attempt. Officials have not released the name of the arrested passenger.
