Woman run over and killed by train between Vidyavihar and Ghatkopar

An unidentified woman was run over and killed on Monday evening, July 20, 2026, after she was allegedly hit by a train while trespassing on the railway tracks between Vidyavihar and Ghatkopar stations on Mumbai's Central Railway network. The fatal incident resulted in a brief disruption of Mumbai's suburban train services during the busy evening rush hour.

According to Central Railway officials, railway staff rushed to the spot immediately after the incident was reported. In order to allow staff to attend to the situation, train services had to be briefly halted.

Among the affected services was the 6:18 pm Badlapur local train, which was detained between Vidyavihar and Ghatkopar stations. The train was held up for approximately five minutes, specifically from 6:04 pm to 6:09 pm. Normal train movement along the Central Railway network resumed once the track was cleared by the responding railway staff.

Railway officials categorized the incident as a case of alleged trespassing on the tracks. Officials noted that trespassing is a major cause of fatalities across Mumbai's suburban railway network.

In light of the fatal accident, the Railways have once again urged commuters and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution and refrain from crossing the railway tracks illegally. Officials warned that even a single moment of negligence on the tracks can prove fatal.
