Worker electrocuted to death on temple premises in Bhiwandi's Teen Batti

A 26-year-old worker died of electrocution on Wednesday after coming into contact with an exposed live electric wire at the Balaji Temple premises near Gopal Sweet House in the Teen Batti area of Bhiwandi. The victim, Mustafa Rajjab Shaikh, was retrieving utensils when the incident occurred, prompting a police investigation and allegations of negligence from his family.
Shaikh, a resident of Chauhan Colony, was occasionally engaged through a contractor to clean large cooking utensils for Gopal Sweet House. Some of the sweet shop's utensils and materials were stored inside the nearby Balaji Temple premises.
On Wednesday, Shaikh entered the temple premises to collect the utensils. Because he was drenched from the rain, he suffered a severe electric shock upon touching the exposed live wire and collapsed on the spot.
He was immediately rushed to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Sub-District Hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has plunged the victim's family into mourning. Relatives alleged that the tragedy could have been prevented if proper electrical safety measures had been in place. They have urged the administration to conduct a transparent investigation and take strict action against anyone found responsible.
Following the incident, officials from Torrent Power visited the spot to inspect the site.
The Nizampur Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Investigators are examining the exact circumstances of the electrocution and whether any individual or organisation failed to ensure basic electrical safety at the location.
Radheshyam Gupta, the owner of Gopal Sweet House, stated that Shaikh was not a regular employee but was called through a contractor whenever there was a requirement to clean utensils.
"He had come on Wednesday to clean utensils as usual. Since he was wet due to the rain, he appears to have come into contact with an exposed live wire somewhere inside the temple premises. We had no knowledge that any electrical wire was lying exposed there," Gupta said.
Police are continuing their investigation, which will include recording witness statements, examining the electrical installation at the site, and seeking technical inputs to determine whether the electrocution resulted from accidental circumstances or negligence.
