Yuriy R Fedkiw takes charge as new United States Consul General in Mumbai

The United States government has officially appointed veteran diplomat Yuriy R. Fedkiw as the new Consul General in Mumbai. Fedkiw, who is also widely referred to as Mike Fedkiw, assumed charge of his new diplomatic role in the city on July 7, 2026. He takes over the leadership of the US diplomatic mission in Mumbai, bringing a wealth of global experience to the position.

Fedkiw is a seasoned diplomat whose career spans multiple continents and critical diplomatic portfolios. His expertise lies in key areas including international security, global trade, and bilateral diplomacy. These skills and his extensive global experience are expected to guide his work as he takes charge of leading US relations and managing consular services in Mumbai.

Prior to his arrival in India to take up his new post in Mumbai, Fedkiw was stationed in Bern, Switzerland. In Switzerland, he served in a dual capacity as the Counselor for Political-Economic Affairs and as the long-term Acting Deputy Chief of Mission. In these roles, his diplomatic responsibilities covered United States relations with both the Swiss Confederation and the neighboring Principality of Liechtenstein.

Fedkiw's career is marked by a diverse range of international assignments. Before his posting in Switzerland, he held diplomatic positions in several countries across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His previous foreign assignments include diplomatic roles in Ukraine, Poland, Iraq, Slovenia, Japan, Qatar, Pakistan, and China. His prior experience working in Pakistan and China provides him with significant regional familiarity as he begins his new tenure in Mumbai.

With his formal assumption of charge on July 7, 2026, Fedkiw will now oversee all operations at the United States Consulate General in Mumbai. He will be responsible for managing consular services and strengthening bilateral trade and security ties between the United States and the region from his office in Mumbai.
