11 Hospitalised in Nalasopara After Dead Lizard Allegedly Found in Cake

Eleven people, including several young children, were hospitalised in Nalasopara after falling ill from eating a birthday cake that allegedly contained a dead lizard.

The incident occurred during a young girl's birthday celebration at the Neelkantheswar building in Nalasopara. Family members had purchased the cake from the Chamunda Dairy cake shop, located directly opposite the residential building. While guests were consuming the dessert, they discovered a dead lizard inside it, causing immediate panic among the attendees.

Shortly after eating the cake, several guests began to feel uneasy and showed symptoms of food poisoning. A total of 11 people required urgent medical care and were taken to Vijaylaxmi Hospital for treatment.

The hospitalised individuals include Urmila Verma, 32; Saloni Gupta, 16; Sudiksha Shah, 19; Afiya Idris, 24; Ruby Shah, 40; Shiv Gupta, 10; Priyansh Verma, 2; Pari Yadav, 7; Priya Verma, 8; Rudra Shah, 13; and Prachi Yadav, 8.

Hospital authorities confirmed that all 11 patients are currently in stable condition. While the family suspects the contaminated confectionery caused the sudden illness, an official medical report is still awaited to determine the exact cause of the food poisoning.

Questions have been raised regarding the hygiene practices, preparation, and packaging standards at the bakery, as well as how the reptile ended up inside the product. Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement outlining the next steps of the investigation.
