50 Booked After Clash and Stone-Pelting Over Traffic Challan in Lalbaug-Parel

Around 50 unidentified people have been booked after two groups clashed in the Lalbaug-Parel area on Wednesday night following an argument that originated over a traffic challan, according to police officials.

The altercation allegedly resulted in stone-pelting and damage to banners in the area. Several people, including police personnel, sustained minor injuries during the incident.

According to police, the trouble began when traffic personnel stopped a two-wheeler for allegedly carrying three people and issued a challan. Another vehicle owner in the vicinity reportedly supported the police action, which sparked an argument between the individuals present.

The dispute escalated when a group of bikers returning from an Eid procession passed through the area. Additional people subsequently joined the confrontation, and the two groups began clashing.

During the confrontation, banners were torn down and stones were pelted. To bring the situation under control, police personnel resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse the gathering crowd and separate the clashing groups.

Senior Mumbai Police officers, including Joint Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma, reached the spot following the unrest to oversee the situation.

A police officer confirmed that cases have been registered regarding the clash and noted that some policemen suffered minor injuries while handling the crowd.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took cognisance of the situation and called a high-level meeting to review security arrangements ahead of upcoming festivals across the city.

Police officials stated that an investigation into the clash is currently underway as authorities work to identify all individuals involved in the stone-pelting and violence.
