8-Year-Old Boy Killed by SUV in Bandra West, Nutritionist Arrested

An eight-year-old boy was killed on Sunday afternoon after being struck and run over by an SUV on St John Baptist Road in Bandra (West). Following the fatal crash, the police arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as 45-year-old nutritionist Megha Rawal.
The victim was identified as Ansh Gupta, a Class 3 student residing in the nearby Kadeshwari area. According to police officials, the incident occurred between 2:15 pm and 2:30 pm near Jijamata Garden. The child had been playing in the garden and was attempting to cross the road to return home when the SUV hit him.
Following the impact, bystanders in the vicinity raised an alarm. Rawal, who hails from a business family, halted the vehicle a short distance ahead. An autorickshaw driver at the scene then lifted the injured child into the SUV. Rawal drove the boy to Holy Family Hospital for treatment.
Medical personnel attended to the child, but he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital at approximately 3:45 pm.
After being alerted to the incident, the Bandra police took Rawal into custody. Officials registered a First Information Report against her under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, as well as charges under the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving.
Police informed Gupta's parents about the crash. Authorities stated that the boy's body would be sent for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators from the Bandra police added that experts from the Regional Transport Office will be called in to inspect the SUV to help determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.
