ACB Arrests BMC Junior Engineer and Worker in ₹60,000 Bribery Trap in Andheri

The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday arrested a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation junior engineer and a ward worker attached to the K/West Ward office in Andheri West for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹60,000 bribe from a bakery operator.

According to the ACB, the worker, identified as 46-year-old Vijay Ramesh Patil, initially demanded ₹70,000 from the 50-year-old complainant. The bribe was sought on behalf of Patil and Junior Engineer Niravkumar Chunilal Jaisur, 43, in order to permit the complainant to continue running his bakery business and avoid punitive civic action against the establishment.

Following the complaint, the ACB carried out a verification procedure regarding the demand. During this verification, Jaisur allegedly negotiated with the bakery owner and reduced the required bribe amount from ₹70,000 to ₹60,000.

The agency subsequently laid a trap on the ward office premises. Patil was caught red-handed accepting the ₹60,000 bribe near the ground-floor lift of the K/West Ward office. Immediately following the operation on the ground floor, ACB officials moved up to the sixth floor and took Jaisur into custody from his office.

During the search, the ACB seized two mobile phones belonging to Jaisur. Officials also recovered a mobile phone and ₹40,820 in cash from Patil's possession, while an additional ₹2.37 lakh was found stored inside Patil's bag.
