BJP Alleges Rs 64-Crore Scam in Vasai-Virar Civic Dumping Ground Project

BJP Alleges Rs 64-Crore Scam in Vasai-Virar Civic Dumping Ground Project

The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged a Rs 64-crore financial scam in the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation's dumping ground project in Vasai, accusing civic officials and a private contractor of colluding in widespread irregularities.

Leader of Opposition Manoj Patil has demanded that criminal cases of cheating and financial fraud be registered against the contractor and the concerned municipal officials, asserting that the civic body suffered massive financial losses as a result of the scam.

According to the allegations, the civic body awarded a contract in 2023 to Sai Utility Private Limited to process 13 lakh tonnes of legacy waste that had accumulated at the dumping ground. The BJP claimed that the contractor billed and claimed Rs 39 crore without carrying out the actual processing of the waste.

The party also highlighted irregularities involving the transportation of refuse-derived fuel generated from the waste. It alleged that fake bills were submitted regarding the transport and sale of the fuel to various companies.

Additionally, the BJP alleged that 17,000 brass of stone was excavated from a natural hill and sold under the pretext of setting up a material recovery facility project, causing further financial losses to the civic administration.

Patil reiterated the demand for strict legal action, urging authorities to register formal fraud and cheating cases against all individuals and officials involved in the Rs 64-crore irregularities.
