BMC Begins Excavation of 5.3-km Twin Tunnel Under Sanjay Gandhi National Park

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has commenced tunnel excavation work under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai as part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.
The civic body began the excavation of a 5.30-kilometre-long twin tunnel that will run directly between Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, also known as Film City, in Goregaon East and Amar Nagar in Mulund West. The subterranean tunneling work is being executed using advanced Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) technology.
The twin tunnel forms a critical component of the overall 12.20-kilometre-long GMLR infrastructure development. The project is designed as a major transport corridor aimed at establishing a direct link between Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs.
