BMC Clarifies No Delay in Treatment After Three Baby Deaths at Rajawadi Hospital

Civic officials have clarified that there was no delay in medical treatment following the deaths of three babies within a 24-hour window at the BMC-run Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, Mumbai.

Hospital authorities submitted their clinical details to Harish Bhandarge, chairman of the civic health committee. According to the medical administration, two of the three cases involved intrauterine fetal deaths where the fetuses had died before delivery, while the third newborn died less than two hours after birth.

Providing a breakdown of the cases, hospital authorities explained that the first case involved a 37-week pregnant woman. When doctors examined her, they found no fetal heartbeat. Subsequent medical scans confirmed that the patient had suffered an intrauterine fetal death.

In the second case, the pregnant patient suffered from pre-existing conditions of diabetes and hypertension. The hospital noted that the woman had missed multiple scheduled check-ups throughout her pregnancy. An ultrasound sonography conducted upon her presentation confirmed an intrauterine fetal death.

In the third case, a woman who had reached 40 weeks of pregnancy underwent a Caesarean section. Following the delivery, the newborn developed bradycardia. Medical teams resuscitated the child and shifted the infant to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. However, the baby died less than two hours after birth.

Civic authorities maintained that proper medical protocols were followed in all three cases and that the medical team provided prompt attention to each of the pregnant women.
