BMC Clears 77 Hawker Obstructions and 9 Food Trucks in Worli-Prabhadevi Drive

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) G/South ward has carried out a major enforcement drive across the Worli-Prabhadevi area, removing 14 unauthorised extensions and structures, 77 hawker obstructions, and nine food trucks from public footpaths and roads.

The action was undertaken as part of the civic body's ongoing 'Pedestrian First' campaign. The initiative aims to restore smooth pedestrian movement and was conducted in accordance with guidelines issued by the Municipal Commissioner on August 6.

The coordinated enforcement operation was led by the Assistant Commissioner of the G/South Ward under Zone-II. Civic teams covered several key stretches in the locality, targeting encroachments along Dainik Shivner Marg, Fitwala Marg, and Balasheth Madurkar Marg where public walkways had been compromised.

During the field operation, civic personnel also dismantled two flower-bed platforms and various other raised structures. Unauthorised water tanks and additional physical obstacles occupying footpath space were also cleared away to ensure pathways remain unobstructed.

According to the BMC, the primary objective of the campaign is to ensure that pedestrian walkways remain dedicated to their intended purpose. The civic administration noted that clearing these spaces allows citizens to walk safely along designated paths without being forced to step onto busy vehicular roads due to illegal encroachments.

The G/South ward administration confirmed that such enforcement operations will continue through coordinated field-level drives to keep pedestrian routes clear and improve accessibility across the area.
