BMC Demolishes 150 Unauthorised Structures in Amar Nagar to Clear Link Road Project

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) T-ward office carried out the demolition of 150 unauthorised residential and commercial structures in the Amar Nagar–Khindipada locality of Mumbai on June 1, 2026. The demolition drive was executed because these structures were directly obstructing the development of the key Goregaon–Mulund Link Road project. This major roadway project is designed to establish a vital connection between the eastern suburbs and the western suburbs of Mumbai.

According to civic officials, a total of approximately 384 structures located in the Amar Nagar and Khindipada areas within the T Ward limits were identified as obstructions to the construction of the link road. During the civic action, the municipal authorities targeted and demolished 150 of these unauthorised structures, which consisted of a mix of residential quarters and commercial establishments.

The civic body has confirmed that the demolition process is not yet complete. The remaining 234 unauthorised structures that continue to obstruct the alignment of the road project are scheduled to be removed by the municipal corporation next week. This subsequent action will clear the entire site of all unauthorised physical obstructions.

The Goregaon–Mulund Link Road is a significant infrastructure undertaking for the city, measuring 12.20 kilometres in total length. The construction and development work on this extensive link road is planned to be completed in four separate phases. The scope of the project across these phases comprises the construction of the road, the creation of an underground tunnel, the building of a flyover, and various other associated infrastructure works.

The demolition action by the BMC T-ward office in the Amar Nagar–Khindipada area represents a major step in clearing the land required for the project. By removing these 150 residential and commercial structures, the local administration has cleared a significant portion of the obstructions, with the final clearance of the remaining structures set to take place next week.
