BMC Distributes 3,000 Litres of Eco-Friendly Colours Across Mumbai Wards

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has distributed 3,000 litres of eco-friendly colours to Ganesh idol makers across the city ahead of Ganeshotsav, with major allocations provided to local workshops in Andheri East and Andheri West.
The initiative, rolled out by the civic body's Environment and Climate Change Department, is aimed at promoting an environmentally friendly festival and curbing the ecological impact of chemical-based paints traditionally used on Ganesh idols.
According to civic officials, the distributed stock comprises six distinct shades: orange, red, blue, black, yellow, and green. Each colour accounted for 500 litres of the total supply, which was dispatched through the civic administration's 26 ward offices across Mumbai.
The civic body identified specific areas for higher distribution based on local demand and concentration of idol-making workshops. Relatively larger quantities of these eco-friendly colours were sent to ward K/E in Andheri East and ward K/W in Andheri West, along with ward F/S covering Parel, ward P/S in Malad, and ward R/S in Kandivali.
To ensure smooth delivery to artisans, the civic administration established specific operational responsibilities covering the procurement, supply, transportation, and ward-wise distribution of the colours across the metropolitan network.
In addition to supporting idol makers with sustainable materials, the civic body has issued an appeal to more than 12,000 public Ganeshotsav mandals across Mumbai. The administration urged mandal organisers to adopt green practices and ensure celebrations are conducted in an environmentally conscious manner.
The distribution was completed ahead of the upcoming festival, which is scheduled to commence with Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14.
