Borivali-Virar 5th and 6th Railway Line Project Reaches 30 Per Cent Progress

The Borivali-Virar 5th and 6th lines project has achieved 30 per cent physical progress and is targeted for completion in 2029, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC) announced on Sunday.

The project, being executed under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-IIIA (MUTP-IIIA), is a major capacity augmentation initiative on the Western Railway suburban corridor and has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 2,184 crore.

The expansion covers a 26-km stretch between Borivali and Virar. The additional railway tracks are being laid to segregate long-distance trains from suburban local services, easing operations across the busy corridor.

Key preliminary works are currently moving forward across the route. According to the MRVC, the relocation of railway structures at Dahisar, Mira Road, Bhayander, Naigaon, Nalasopara, and Vasai Road is either complete or at an advanced stage.
