Coast Guard Lays Foundation Stone for 29-Storey Residential Tower in Worli

The foundation stone for a 29-storey residential complex for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) officials was laid in Worli, Mumbai, on Friday. The high-rise facility aims to address housing needs and upgrade living standards for personnel and their families stationed in the city.

Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander of the ICG Western Region, presided over the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Coast Guard Residential Area (CORA) building. The infrastructure project will be executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

The planned 29-storey residential tower in Worli will feature both single living quarters and married accommodation flats for officers. It will also house an integrated officers' mess complete with a wardroom and dining hall, alongside a gymnasium and a multipurpose hall. Additionally, the project includes dedicated multi-level parking designed to accommodate 91 vehicles.

The residential project was initially sanctioned in February 2020 but faced administrative and regulatory hurdles. These were resolved through coordination with the Maharashtra government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Key approvals included a waiver of floor space index (FSI) charges until the issuance of the occupancy certificate, followed by a re-tendering process. With the grant of the commencement certificate on August 3, the project secured full statutory compliance and moved into the execution phase.

A spokesperson stated that the CORA Worli complex reflects the Indian Coast Guard's focus on personnel welfare, operational readiness, and the creation of modern infrastructure for maritime personnel.
