David Dhawan to direct Varun Dhawan in upcoming comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

MUMBAI — The plot and cast details for the upcoming Bollywood film 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', directed by David Dhawan, have been revealed ahead of its scheduled 2026 release. The romantic comedy features a lead cast of Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, and promises a chaotic storyline involving complicated relationships.
The film follows the life of Jaswinder, popularly known as Jass, played by Varun Dhawan. Jass works as a professional wedding photographer. While working at a wedding for his client's sister, he meets Bani, played by Mrunal Thakur, and falls in love with her. Bani is charmed by his personality, and the two soon get married.
However, the marital bliss does not last. Five years into their marriage, Bani decides to ask for a divorce. The conflict arises because Jass is eager to start a family and have a child, while Bani is strongly against the idea.
The legal battle brings them before a judge, played by Ali Asgar. Hoping that the couple might find a way to reconcile their differences, the judge decides to annul the marriage after a period of six months. Despite the court's intervention, Bani remains clear and resolute in her decision to separate from Jass.
Devastated by the breakdown of his marriage, Jass decides to leave the country and shifts to London to start afresh. In London, he crosses paths with Preet, played by Pooja Hegde. The two begin dating, and their relationship progresses smoothly until unexpected news disrupts Jass's new life.
On the same day, both women from Jass's life deliver major news. Bani unexpectedly arrives at Jass's home in London to announce that she is pregnant with his child. Simultaneously, Preet also informs Jass that she is expecting a baby, setting up the central conflict of the comedy film.
The production has already generated anticipation with the release of promotional materials, including 63 photos and eight videos. The film's soundtrack is also set to feature a track titled 'Chunnari Chunnari – Let’s Go.' 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' is slated to hit theatres in 2026.
