Devotees Gather at Mumbai's Shree Babulnath Temple on Nag Panchami

Large crowds of devotees gathered at the historic Shree Babulnath Temple near Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai on Monday, August 17, 2026, to offer special prayers and perform rituals on the occasion of Nag Panchami.

The festival coincided with the third Monday of the holy Hindu month of Shravan, drawing significant numbers of worshippers to one of the city's oldest and most prominent Shiva shrines.

Devotees visited the temple throughout the day to seek blessings and offer prayers to both Lord Shiva and Nag Devta. As part of the traditional rituals, worshippers performed abhishekam and presented offerings of milk, flowers, and other traditional items. Many observers also maintained fasts as part of the religious observance.

Nag Panchami is observed on the fifth day of the bright half of the lunar month of Shravan. The day is dedicated to the worship of serpent deities, known as Nag Devtas in Hindu tradition. Devotees believe that offering prayers to serpent deities brings protection, prosperity, and blessings to their families.

The festival carries added significance for followers of Lord Shiva, who is traditionally depicted with a serpent around his neck as a symbol of connection with nature and mastery over fear and death. In Hindu tradition, serpents are also associated with Lord Vishnu.

Shree Babulnath Temple regularly attracts a large number of visitors, particularly during the holy month of Shravan, with Monday witnessing heightened devotional activity across the temple premises.
