Dia Mirza reflects on her decision to take a two-year career sabbatical at age 24

Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has opened up about her decision to take a two-year career sabbatical at the peak of her early career in Mumbai. Speaking on Soha Ali Khan's podcast 'All About Her', the actress revealed she chose to step back from the film industry at the age of 24 to reconnect with herself.
Mirza shared that despite achieving financial independence and professional success at a young age, she felt unfulfilled and decided to pause and reassess her life choices. She described the period as a "homecoming of sorts" that ultimately helped her rediscover happiness and purpose.
During the podcast, Mirza explained that she felt conflicted about her work in the industry, particularly regarding the commercial expectations placed upon her. She noted that she felt sucked into the world of commodification, where her primary job as a model was to sell things.
She also realized that the parts she was playing did not carry the integrity, intelligence, or ethos that she personally carried. This conflict made her question what she was standing for.
The actress took her sabbatical in 2005, at a time when she was 24 years old and considered to be in her career prime. She explained that she chose to step back because she was not having fun and the work was not making her happy, despite having achieved financial stability.
Mirza stated that she had made money, was independent, and owned a home in Mumbai, meaning she did not have to worry about bills, but she still felt the need to go back to herself.
Mirza made her acting debut in Hindi cinema with 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.' Over her career, she has appeared in notable films such as 'Dus,' 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai,' 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd,' 'Shootout at Lokhandwala,' and 'Kurbaan'. In recent years, she has also starred in acclaimed projects including 'Sanju' and 'Thappad.'
