Director Vaibhav Kumaresh Releases New Animated Film Return Of The Jungle

The Hindi animated adventure film Return Of The Jungle, directed by animator Vaibhav Kumaresh, released in cinemas across Mumbai on May 29, 2026. The 1-hour-36-minute film, rated U, offers a family-friendly story rooted in Indian storytelling traditions.
The narrative follows a schoolboy named Mihir and his group of friends who are constantly bullied by the most feared kid at their school. Seeking a way to handle the conflict, the children turn to their grandfather, whom they call Thatha. Through ancient, Panchatantra-inspired jungle stories, Thatha teaches them about courage, teamwork, empathy, and clever thinking, helping them peacefully resolve their real-world problems.
The cast features Surendra Bhatia, Manish Bhawan, Arav Bhatia, Saurav Chakraborty, and Vaibhav Kumaresh. Kumaresh is widely recognized for his previous animated creations, including Simpoo and Lamput.
The production features a vibrant animated world designed to blend contemporary Indian school life with lush, imaginative jungle landscapes. The character designs were crafted to give each figure a distinct personality and charm, aiming to make the animated world feel lively and populated. Even the supporting characters were designed to leave a lasting impression.
The visual style carries a comforting familiarity intended to resonate strongly with younger audiences. Rather than borrowing from international trends or Western templates, the film embraces Indian traditions and storytelling heritage. The Panchatantra-inspired narratives are designed to evoke memories of bedtime stories narrated by grandparents, giving the film an emotional warmth.
Critics gave the film a 3.0 rating, praising its visual appeal, fluid animation, and cultural rootedness. While noted for not entirely reinventing the animation genre, the film was highlighted as a wholesome entertainer that succeeds in delivering a warm, engaging experience that children are likely to cherish.
