Fadnavis Assures Safe Return for Maharashtra Tourists Stranded in Nepal Floods

In Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday held a video call with tourists from Maharashtra who are stranded in Nepal amid devastating flash floods, assuring them that the state government is actively coordinating their safe return.

After speaking to the tourists and assessing their condition, Fadnavis offered reassurance, stating, “Do not fear, the government is with you.” He confirmed that necessary instructions had been issued to the state administration to ensure their swift and safe travel back home.

Fadnavis stated that he has been in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs to follow up on evacuation efforts and prioritise the rescue of citizens from Maharashtra. Reports indicated that the Chief Minister also spoke with Nepal MP Sandeep Rana regarding the ground situation, reiterating that the safety of Maharashtra’s citizens remains the government's top priority.

The flash floods struck Nepal on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction, damaging settlements and critical infrastructure, and killing nearly 359 people. Around 910 individuals remain missing or unaccounted for, including personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Customs Office, and Immigration Office.

Search and rescue operations in Nepal continue as authorities monitor further flood threats from a newly formed lake upstream of the Lhende River and flooding along the Bhotekoshi River in the Rasuwagadhi area near the Nepal-China border.
