GMLR Project Begins Digging 5.3-Km Tunnel Under SGNP

Excavation work for the first of two tunnels under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park has commenced as part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Phase 3(B) project, according to civic officials. The underground route connects Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in Goregaon East with Amar Nagar in Mulund West.
The 5.3-kilometre twin tunnels are being constructed using a tunnel boring machine named 'Tulsi'. A top official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reviewed the progress of the work as digging operations got underway.
Officials described the GMLR Phase 3(B) tunnel project as a technically challenging infrastructure initiative due to the alignment running beneath the protected forest area of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
The project marks a major milestone in establishing direct east-west connectivity between Goregaon and Mulund.
