Hindi Film IIZ Indian Institute Of Zombies Debuts To Low 1.5 Star Rating

The Hindi horror-comedy film 'IIZ: Indian Institute of Zombies' debuted on May 15, 2026, receiving a poor reception from critics and audiences alike, including viewers in Bandra. Directed by Gaganjeet Singh and Alok Dwivedi, the film secured a low rating of 1.5 out of 5 stars due to a weak narrative, shoddy computer graphics, and inconsistent makeup.

The film is set at the Indian Institute of Innovation, where college toppers are tricked by the evil scientist Dr. Darwendra, played by Mohan Kapur, into drinking a potion that turns them into flesh-eating zombies. A group of backbenchers led by Professor Breganza, played by Anupriya Goenka, must team up to stop the contagion from spreading to the campus lake and eventually the rest of the nation.

Alongside Goenka and Kapur, the film's cast features Sachin Kavetham as Rambo, Tanishq Chaudhary as Haggu, Shiva Brijrani as Virat Sharma, Jesse Lever as Bhim Bhayankar, Rose Sardana as Kiran, and Ranjan Raj as the nerd Kitaab Shivdasani. Subhash Ahirwar plays the 'pet' zombie Brutus, while Bidisha Ghosh Sharma portrays the zombie professor Mayalalitha.

Written by a team consisting of Kunj Sanghvi, Hussain Dalal, Abbas Dalal, Siddharth Kumar, and Husain Hardawala, the film attempts to use college elements like attendance sheets and surprise quizzes as a satirical commentary on academic pressure. However, reviewers noted that the screenplay lacks the sharp wit needed to make its satirical elements work, relying instead on forced humour and random pop-culture references.

While the actors were noted to perform their roles earnestly, the film's technical execution fell short. The visual effects and computer graphics were described as shoddy, and only a few scenes managed to deliver comedy. Ultimately, both professional critics and users rated the 2-hour-and-17-minute film at 1.5 out of 5 stars, concluding that the movie failed to deliver on its promising premise.
