IMD Forecasts Moderate Rain and Gusty Winds for Mumbai With No Weather Alert
Mumbai experienced light drizzle, overcast skies, and gusty winds on Monday morning as active monsoon conditions continued across the city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall and thundershowers at several places throughout the day, though no formal rain alerts have been issued for the week.
According to the weather department, Mumbai and its surrounding suburbs are expected to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall continuing at multiple locations. While widespread heavy rainfall is not anticipated, isolated pockets across the region could witness moderate to heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds.
Wind speeds across the city are forecast to stay between 40 and 50 kmph, with gusts potentially accelerating to between 50 and 60 kmph during intense rain spells. The daytime maximum temperature is projected to settle around 31°C, following a minimum temperature of 27°C recorded on Monday morning.
The current weather pattern follows several spells of moderate to heavy rainfall that were recorded across Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region during the opening days of August. Forecasters expect light to moderate rainfall to persist across the city through the remainder of the week.
Alongside the rainy conditions, Mumbai’s air quality remained in the ‘Good’ category on Monday morning. Official data showed the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 33.
Under standard classification metrics, an AQI reading between 0 and 50 is categorized as ‘Good’, while values between 51 and 100 fall under ‘Moderate’. Readings from 101 to 200 are rated ‘Poor’, 201 to 300 are classified as ‘Unhealthy’, and levels exceeding 300 are marked as ‘Severe’.
With intermittent showers and thundershowers expected across the city, residents will encounter wet and windy conditions, though overall monsoon activity is expected to remain manageable throughout the week.
