JNPA Flags Off First Long-Haul Double-Stack Train on Dedicated Freight Corridor

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Mumbai has commenced its first long-haul double-stack rake operation on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), marking a key milestone in strengthening rail connectivity and accelerating the movement of export-import (EXIM) cargo from the port.

The inaugural rake departed from JNPA at 7:00 pm on August 21, loaded with 360 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of import cargo. The shipment had arrived through the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited (BMCTPL), which is operated by PSA.

According to an official statement, the train was dispatched toward the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal of the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) located at Varnama (CGMV) in Gujarat.

Double-stack trains carry containers stacked in two layers, which allows significantly more cargo to be transported within a single rake. The roll-out of these long-haul double-stack services is aimed at expanding capacity and enhancing the overall efficiency and speed of rail freight operations originating from JNPA.
