Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Rs 17,725 Crore Mira-Bhayandar to Vasai-Virar Metro Line 13

The Maharashtra government has approved the ambitious 25.03-km Metro Line 13 project connecting Mira-Bhayandar with Vasai-Virar at an estimated cost of Rs 17,724.99 crore. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The new corridor is planned to improve connectivity across the western suburbs and provide a faster public transport alternative to the congested road network in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Out of the total 25.03-km route, 21.78 km will be elevated and 3.25 km will run underground. The project will feature 16 stations in total, comprising 13 elevated stations and three underground stations. The alignment will link several key localities, including Mira Road, Naigaon, Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar.
A key engineering feature of the project includes a 4.92-km-long, six-lane road-cum-metro bridge over Vasai Creek, which will connect Paanju Island. A dedicated metro depot has been proposed at Chikhal Dongri to support operations across the corridor.
Metro Line 13 is designed to offer direct connectivity to railway stations at Naigaon, Nalasopara, and Virar. It will also link with Metro Line 9 at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, providing an interchange with the wider metro network. Bus feeder services are planned at all 16 stations to ensure last-mile connectivity for commuters.
The project will require approximately 24.84 hectares of land. Chief Minister Fadnavis instructed officials to complete land acquisition and approach-road construction within the next six months. The state government has set a target to finish construction of the corridor within five years from the date of approval.
By 2031, the metro line is projected to carry approximately 4.49 lakh daily passengers. Officials estimate that the route will cut road travel time between Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar by nearly 50 per cent, easing traffic on national highways and supporting commercial and industrial hubs in the region.
