Maharashtra Directs Collectors to Trace Over 80 Travellers Stranded in Nepal

In Mumbai, the Maharashtra government directed district collectors across the state on Thursday to audit and gather details on all residents travelling in Nepal following devastating flash floods in the neighbouring country.

Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Girish Mahajan announced that administrative heads in every district have been instructed to identify travellers from their respective jurisdictions. The move comes amid estimates that more than 80 tourists and devotees from Maharashtra are stranded due to the severe flood conditions.

According to Mahajan, authorities have established contact with four stranded individuals so far, while the others have not yet been reached. He noted that several tourists from the state had departed for the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, though the exact number of pilgrims on the journey remains unclear. Among those travellers, one family from Jalgaon has been contacted by officials.

The Disaster Management Authority has set up a helpline to assist and collect information regarding citizens stranded in the flood-hit areas. However, Mahajan explained that the helpline had not yet received comprehensive details about all citizens who travelled to Nepal for tourism.

Because complete information was not readily available through helpline reports alone, all district collectors across Maharashtra have been tasked with proactively collecting information on tourists and devotees who departed from their local areas to aid coordination efforts.
